Six Patterns of Lasting Impact

Bring your questions, frustrations, stories and triumphs to this hands-on workshop. Using real examples and our own experience, we will explore six patterns that increase the chances of achieving impact, durability and scale in our work.

What: Workshop with Al Etmanski

Date & Time: October 29, 9:30–12:30 pm

Location: Halifax Central Library, 5440 Spring Garden Road, Halifax

The six patterns:

• Think and act like a movement
• Create a container for your content
• Set the table for allies, adversaries and strangers
• Mobilize your economic power
• Advocate with empathy
• Who is as important as how

“Just because you have a shiny new solution, the world will not beat a path to your door. Enduring social innovation doesn’t spread by accident. We need to deliberately nurture the conditions in which it can flourish.”  —Al Etmanski, Impact

Who is Al Etmanski?

Al_Etmanski.jpegAl Etmanski is a community organizer, social entrepreneur and author. He is a founding partner of Social Innovation Generation (SiG) and was part of the June 2012 dialogue on social innovation in Halifax, co-sponsored by SIG, that led to the founding of Engage Nova Scotia. Al says he is eager to return to Nova Scotia, where he cut his "community organizing teeth" in the 1970s. He continues, "My heart has never left Nova Scotia. I look forward to exploring the deeper patterns of change that exist in Nova Scotia with the Engage network."

Al is also a founder of BC Partners for Social Impact. Previously he co-founded Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) with his wife Vickie Cammack and Jack Collins. Al is an Ashoka fellow, and a faculty member of John McKnight’s Asset Based Community Development Institute (ABCD). He once played air guitar with Randy Bachman of BTO (Bachman-Turner-Overdrive) in a rock video which convinced him to stick with his day job. Read his blog here:
